The Woods Essay -- essays research papers

Jack was steaming mad. He had just had yet another fight with his mom about wasting food and was heading to the old tree house in the woods. They were always fighting about wasting food. He saw where she was coming from. They were pretty tight on cash, but if she was so intent on not wasting food why didn't she eat it. He was sitting at the foot of the abandoned tree house, drawing a dragon in the sand, when he suddenly felt the overwhelming need to go deeper into the woods. He knew he shouldn’t go. There were dangerous animals like wolves and bears in the woods, but he had to. Some hidden force was calling to him. He had to go regardless of the dangers. The force was too strong. Resistance was futile. He got up and went. He went deeper and deeper into the woods. Crossing over bridges and going through thick bundles of trees and bushes. He kept going until he came upon an old house. The house looked abandoned, but it couldn't have been. There was smoke coming out of the chimney. It was almost nighttime and he was very thirsty. Maybe the person inside would be nice enough to give him some water and let him stay the night, but then again maybe they would be a psychotic serial killer on the run from the cops. He went up to the door and knocked anyway. The door creaked open to reveal an old man sitting in a rocking chair by a fireplace. Above the fire was a black cauldron. He didn't seem to notice that Jack had entered. The old man just sat there rocking back and forth. Jack cleared his throat to sort of announce his presence. The old man turned around and told Jack to come in and sit down. He went over and sat in a chair also near the fire. They both sat in silence for a while. Then the old man took a bright blue stone out of the cauldron. He took a piece of cloth out of his pocket and wrapped it around the stone. He told Jack to take it, that it would keep him saf e on his quest as he gave it to him. Jack asked him what quest he was talking about and that he wasn't on a quest. The old man told him he was and to go, there was much to be done before the morning. Jack figured that he was no longer welcome in the house and left. He was going to go home but couldn't remember which way he came from. He looked around for a little then decided he would go towards the setting sun. He walked for a very long time thinking he might be going the wrong way because he d... ...m until he reached the top just incase it happened again. He said he would be very grateful if they did. He climbed the rest of the way to the top without incident. He thanked the fairies and they went back down leaving him to find his way back alone. He found his way to the tree house after many hours of being lost in the woods. He figured it was about noon and decided to go back to his house after he left the dagger at the tree house but brought the water with him. He went back to his home and his mother was so happy to see him. He asked her where his dad was and she told him sadly that he was sick in bed and that he had been very sick for the past two days. Jack went in, his mother followed him and stood in the doorway. He gave his dad the special water and told him he should be better soon. His dad asked him what it was and he told him not to worry about that and to just get better. His mom then asked him where he got it and he said she wouldn’t believe him if he told her. Jack was home and his mother treated him better than she did before he left. His dad had gotten better and so had his life. Jack was now thankful for what he had rather that sorry for what he didn't have.

Human hair wigs vs Synthetic

From Napoleon to Cher, wigs have been indicators of social status, allow oneself to become another person in a matter of seconds, change one’s overall appearance for either a very natural look or a dramatic look. I’d like to discuss the difference between synthetic and human hair wigs and hairpieces.Synthetic wigs are durable and more often than not more affordable than human hair wigs. Because they are made of synthetic materials, up close and to the touch, they do not feel like natural hair. They are also abnormally shiny which can be a dead giveaway that the person is wearing a wig..   The synthetic wig, because it is made of thicker material, will also not breathe as well as the human hair wig alternatives. Synthetic hair wigs are prepared from man-made fibers called Kanekalon, Toyokalon and can change from brand to brand. The quality of Synthetic wigs varies from four to six weeks if well maintained. Synthetic hair is usually easier to handle than human hair wigs. Synthetics wigs hold styles a lot longer because they were made to look a certain style and even the hair fibers were molded via chemical processes to keep the look intact. Usually, synthjetic wigs do not last as long as human hair because they tend to easily shed, tangle & get frizzy. There are however, exceptions, and treatments to help maintain the look of your wig. The advantages to purchasing synthetic wigs are price, along with ease of wear plus and a greater variety of particular styles, including the ability to wear any texture without having to chemically treat the natural hair.Hot appliances should not be used on synthetic wigs. These tools will melt the synthetic hair strands and ruin the wig. Occasionally, a clothing steamer may be used to bring back the shape. Synthetic wigs cannot be dyed either. The wigs undergo several chemical processes prior to being sold, making them nearly impossible to alter. Even if a wig says it is human hair, chances are unless you paid good money for it, it is a synthetic blend and cannot be dyed or heat styled. These blended wigs are made from human hair blended with synthetic materials, They look less fake as a straight synthetic wig would, and has the light, airy feeling of a much lighter human hair wig.Mixed blend wigs are less expensive that can last up to three to four months, However it must be handled with care as one would treat their own natural hair once the  hair has been worn.  Lower-quality of mixed â€Å"human hair† wigs is often diluted with animal and synthetic hair to lower the price. New fibers are developed continuously that are better resistant to heat and have an appearance closer to human hair. Mixed hair can be styled with heating tools at a very low temperature. Using tools that are too hot on these blended wigs will cause them to melt, frizz and shrivel up. Human hair is available in many different grades; mainly from women that offer their hair to deities in Hindu temples and othe r countries in a show of respect and gratitude. Few don’t realize the offerings wind up in a lucrative export market serving China and Hollywood and all over the world.  Human Hair texture wigs need special care to last longer than one year, as they can become delicate and brittle. This type of wig is usually more expensive because of the natural look and softer feel it originates. Using suitable hair products to keep the wig moisturized and protected can lengthen the lifetime for the wig. Human hair wigs is a more indistinguishable alternative to natural hair. They are easier to care for but do not have as much flexibility as natural hair, which can still be dyed, permed, and restyled to match personal tastes Best of all, human hair wigs are more durable than synthetic and mixed wigs since human hair is much stronger. The downsides to owning a real human hair wig are the price and the extent of care. Most human hair wigs are very expensive .Human hair is, however, more vers atile than synthetic hair being that it can be colored, relaxed, or curled with heating appliances just as one would do with his or her own hair. Human hair wigs also require more upkeep. Just like real hair, human hair wigs do not hold their shape after washing. Each time you wash a human hair wig you must restyle it or take it back to the stylist for setting. These wigs don't hold their style permanently you must use more products on them to keep them looking good.High quality 100% human hair is more expensive than hair mixed with other materials (synthetic hair is most common) most wigs come with excessive hair and it is recommended that they be taken to a stylist to be shaped and customized to your individual features. The same maintenance that one would apply to his or her own hair should be applied to the human hair to keep it in good condition. While most synthetic hair wigs are less expensive than human hair wigs, you do need to choose a higher priced wig if you want a more natural look. The higher the quality of the wig the more it will  resemble human hair. The best hair is of Either Brazilian or Indian. Before deciding between a human hair and synthetic hair wig it is best to consult with a hair stylist. They will be able to help you settle on which type of wig that would be the best match to your individual needs and liking, they may also style it for you for optimum customization and make it look even more natural. So, if you are in the market for a wig,as with most things in life, it’s best not to go with the cheapest option.High quality brazilian or Indian hair makes for the most luxurious and natural looking hair. If you’re looking for a last second option to change your look dramatically, a nice synthetic wig will suffice and is always fun to throw on before going out with the girls.

A Rhetoric Analysis Of Willie Neilson s The Redheaded...

Lessons of Life: A Rhetoric Analysis of Willie Neilson’s The Redheaded Stranger Willie First signed with Columbia records in 1973. Bruce Lundvall president of Columbia records says, â€Å"†¦ this is willies labor of love. He’s always wanted to do this record. It’s going to be a collector’s item. It’s not going to sell, but it’s special.† (Citation Dan Ouellette Bruce Lundvall playing by ear) Despite the expectations of Lundvall the album went multiplatinum and is also number one-hundred eighty four in the rolling stone’s 500 greatest albums. The Redheaded Stranger reflects the story of love, betrayal, revenge, and redemption. The album begins with â€Å"Time of the Preacher† the story of a reverend marrying a woman who loved another. The reverend was in eternal love with the woman; he loved her more than life itself. The next song in the album â€Å"I couldn’t believe it’s true† explains that the preacher hears a bout his wife’s love with another man and goes home to find that she has left. So the preacher saddles up his horse and rides off. At this point the man is in a manic state although to what extent we don’t find out until the third song of the album. The third song â€Å"Blue Rock Montana† tells us the man rides into town and books a room and is having a lot of thoughts and temptations. The preacher finds his wife sitting and smiling in a bar with her new lover and overwhelmed with rage he blows their heads off. At this point in the album the man takes the horse his newly late wife was

My First Semester As A College Student - 842 Words

As expected my first semester as a college student was an adjustment. Learning to live with roommates, increased academic rigor, and being on my own for the first time all took some getting used to. Despite a few hiccups along the way, I would say that my adjustment to life as a college student went fairly smoothly. Although, there are a few areas that I still need to work on. For example, throughout high school, I rarely needed to study to achieve the grades I desired. However, I learned quickly that this was not going to work in college. Learning how to study is something I am still working on, but my studying strategies have improved greatly compared to where they were at the beginning of the year. Slowly but surely I am discovering†¦show more content†¦I adored my sophomore English teacher, and she really helped to improve and enhance my writing ability and style. However, my English teachers my junior and senior year did not do much to improve my writing. My junior year I got a 100% on every single essay I wrote because our teacher graded mainly on completion. Furthermore, my senior year I took humanities for English, and we only wrote one essay the entire year. As a result, I felt like my writing ability decreased, and I lost confidence in my writing. After taking English 101, I feel as though my writing ability has improved. Additionally, I have regained some of my confidence as a writer. One area that I can improve upon in my writing is that I still tend to make grammatical errors. A grammatical error that I have made multiple times in this class as well as others concerns quotes. When quoting something, I introduce it with an improper punctuation, or I have an improper quotation in the citation. In general, punctuation is something that I need to work on. Furthermore, in my peer edits, Guillermo often noted that at times my writing becomes repetitive. Typically, this is something that I do not catch on my own. However, after reading his comm ents, I have realized that I can be repetitive at times. Additionally, Jacqueline often remarked that I needed to further explain or provide greater detail. This is something I struggle with. Merchant Of Venice Film Analysis - 1309 Words

The movie adaptation of The Merchant of Venice, directed by Michael Radford in 2004, is the first full-length sound film in English, of Shakespeares play. Radford’s adaptation helps the modern day moviegoer understand the complexity of the plays sensitive and controversial topics. There are a litany of differences between the two. However, the storyline and themes remain closely in line with one another. The film differs from the play in some chronological instances. For example, the play has Lorenzo and Jessica runway with one another before the Moroccans casket choice at Portias’ castle. These two scenes occur in reverse order in the film version. Radford has various scenes that have been spliced or reordered in his adaptation, which†¦show more content†¦When Antonio first emerges, he is walking through a mob of Christians as they berate the Jews for their usury profession. Hes wearing a large crucifix around his neck, which serves as a compelling visual link between Antonio and the church. Antonio is being beckoned to in a friendly, welcoming tone by Shylock who then reaches his hand out to greet Antonio. He responds quickly, by spitting in Shylock’s face. This action creates an immediate question of fairness with the viewers. By adding this specific opening scene, the audience becomes aware of the key characters, Shylock and Antonio, as well as the mistreatment of Jews. Having the film open with cruel, anti-Semitic behavior is a deliberate tactic by Radford used to address the harsh subject of the film from the onset. Radford also utilizes this scene to create a more relatable character in Shylock before beginning the actual storyline. In the play Shylock is more overtly portrayed as a villain, where Radford reconstructs Shylock to embody both villain and victim. As a viewer of the film, we are privy to emotions from Antonio and Shylock that we are not able to so quickly glean from the lines of the play. For example, in the fil m, the depth of Shylocks despair is palpable when he is shown weeping, clinging to a tapestry for stability, in utter dismay at the loss of his daughter. There is an immediate emotional connection with Shylock at this moment, one that so easily formed in the play.
