As expected my first semester as a college student was an adjustment. Learning to live with roommates, increased academic rigor, and being on my own for the first time all took some getting used to. Despite a few hiccups along the way, I would say that my adjustment to life as a college student went fairly smoothly. Although, there are a few areas that I still need to work on. For example, throughout high school, I rarely needed to study to achieve the grades I desired. However, I learned quickly that this was not going to work in college. Learning how to study is something I am still working on, but my studying strategies have improved greatly compared to where they were at the beginning of the year. Slowly but surely I am discovering†¦show more content†¦I adored my sophomore English teacher, and she really helped to improve and enhance my writing ability and style. However, my English teachers my junior and senior year did not do much to improve my writing. My junior year I got a 100% on every single essay I wrote because our teacher graded mainly on completion. Furthermore, my senior year I took humanities for English, and we only wrote one essay the entire year. As a result, I felt like my writing ability decreased, and I lost confidence in my writing. After taking English 101, I feel as though my writing ability has improved. Additionally, I have regained some of my confidence as a writer. One area that I can improve upon in my writing is that I still tend to make grammatical errors. A grammatical error that I have made multiple times in this class as well as others concerns quotes. When quoting something, I introduce it with an improper punctuation, or I have an improper quotation in the citation. In general, punctuation is something that I need to work on. Furthermore, in my peer edits, Guillermo often noted that at times my writing becomes repetitive. Typically, this is something that I do not catch on my own. However, after reading his comm ents, I have realized that I can be repetitive at times. Additionally, Jacqueline often remarked that I needed to further explain or provide greater detail. This is something I struggle with. The movie adaptation of The Merchant of Venice, directed by Michael Radford in 2004, is the first full-length sound film in English, of Shakespeares play. Radford’s adaptation helps the modern day moviegoer understand the complexity of the plays sensitive and controversial topics. There are a litany of differences between the two. However, the storyline and themes remain closely in line with one another. The film differs from the play in some chronological instances. For example, the play has Lorenzo and Jessica runway with one another before the Moroccans casket choice at Portias’ castle. These two scenes occur in reverse order in the film version. Radford has various scenes that have been spliced or reordered in his adaptation, which†¦show more content†¦When Antonio first emerges, he is walking through a mob of Christians as they berate the Jews for their usury profession. Hes wearing a large crucifix around his neck, which serves as a compelling visual link between Antonio and the church. Antonio is being beckoned to in a friendly, welcoming tone by Shylock who then reaches his hand out to greet Antonio. He responds quickly, by spitting in Shylock’s face. This action creates an immediate question of fairness with the viewers. By adding this specific opening scene, the audience becomes aware of the key characters, Shylock and Antonio, as well as the mistreatment of Jews. Having the film open with cruel, anti-Semitic behavior is a deliberate tactic by Radford used to address the harsh subject of the film from the onset. Radford also utilizes this scene to create a more relatable character in Shylock before beginning the actual storyline. In the play Shylock is more overtly portrayed as a villain, where Radford reconstructs Shylock to embody both villain and victim. As a viewer of the film, we are privy to emotions from Antonio and Shylock that we are not able to so quickly glean from the lines of the play. Well, injected drugs can also lead to collapsed veins, infections of the blood and different kind of diseases such as Aids. Another effect on drugs is that it can cause seizures, stroke and widespread brain mage that leads to problems with memory, attention and decision-making.
